Caphouse Colliery, originally known as Overton Colliery, was a coal mine in Overton, near Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It was situated on the Denby Grange estate owned by the Lister Kaye family, and was worked from the 18th century until 1985. It reopened as the Yorkshire Mining Museum in 1988, and is now the National Coal Mining Museum for England. 'overton colliery' is the true name of a milnes pit, a few hundred yards towards middlestown between caphouse and the crossroad of wood lane to green lane, by which ran the second of milnes, tramway waggonways, traversing across the top of emroyd common to the engine hauled incline down to the river staith to the rear of the now bingley arms, after the partial canalisation and dredging of the calder in the 1780's until this was rerouted to the new calder hebble navigation on its contruction in the 1850's.
